Sensing

Sensing is very important in coaching. Coaching as far as I understand it, is not an analytical procedure. It is much about sensing the person, being empathic, being ready to receive signals through all the senses. In fact, coaching means to be fully in the present moment and trust the process as it unfolds.

In our understanding, intuition and holistic working are the most important elements to understand what is really going on with the coachee. In that sense, coaching is not a logical and left brain driven activity, even if concrete results are expected. We are driven by the trust, that those aspects which are really crucial to the coachee, will show up during that process if he/she is open enough. In that respect, it is much about sensing, empathy, being ready to receive signals from the coachee through all the senses.

Coaching means to be fully in the present moment and trust the process as it unfolds. In doing so, there is an own intelligence emerging in this process which goes beyond the participants. It is not so much about what the coach or the coachee want, it is about what wants to emerge in this very moment. This way of coaching has been developed by my mentor Coach Alan Seale, founder of the Center of Transformational Presence.
